Cliff Lede Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 | Cellar Selection – drinks well for 2 Decades
An extraordinary Cabernet Sauvignon built to last and emblematic of one of the greatest winegrowing terroirs on the planet. Cliff Lede Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 draws upon fruit from some of the highest, craggiest hillside sites in the district. While ripe and hedonistic, offering gobs of blackberry and blueberry preserves. All interwoven with layers of spice, clove, and mocha, all wrapped up by powerful, age-worthy tannins. Inky black in the glass. Most of all a benchmark for the power, concentration, and richness you’d expect from Stags Leap. Drink now to 2036.
93 Wine Advocate | A blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 7% Merlot, 7% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc. The deep garnet-purple colored Cliff Lede Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 offers up a cassis, smoked meat, blackberry preserves and spice cake-scented nose with a mocha hint. While full-bodied, rich and concentrated with firm, grainy tannins, it shows a lot of oak. As a result should marry with the intense fruit, finishing long and layered.
Cliff Lede | Founder & Namesake Winery
Since founding his namesake winery in 2002, Cliff Lede (pronounced lay-dee) has put every emphasis towards creating a modern and diversified world-class estate. A strategic thinker and visionary, Lede is the driving force of a company that at once holds the values of the great Old World winemaking properties, with the energy, youth, and spark of the New World. His wines are intrinsically connected to the land, yet his viewpoint is forward-thinking and entirely fresh.
100 Point Winemaker Chris Tynan
As Cliff Lede Vineyards’ Winemaker, Chris Tynan lets the grapes speak for themselves. In 2006, Christopher became the assistant winemaker at the prestigious Colgin Cellars on Pritchard Hill. At Colgin, Christopher worked closely with Vineyard Manager David Abreu for the next five years. It was here where he learned and embodied the standard for excellence in all aspects of winemaking and viticulture. Wines made during Christopher’s tenure at Colgin were awarded seven 100 point scores from wine critic Robert Parker.
In 2012, Chris was introduced to Cliff Lede by David Abreu and joined the Cliff Lede Vineyards team shortly thereafter. Abreu planted both of Lede’s estate vineyards, the rugged hillside site known as Poetry Vineyard, and the valley floor parcel named Twin Peaks Vineyard. And the Cliff Lede Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 was sourced from both of these incredible sites. Of course, planted and maintained to the most exacting specifications imaginable.
