Purlieu Le Pich Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 | Powerful & Opulent
Purlieu Le Pich Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 presents brilliant deep ruby in color. Intriguing aromas of black cherry, black currant, cedar, violets, and crushed rocks. Svelte and mouth-filling, with pliable tannins, ripe black fruit, mocha, and graphite. While beautifully balanced with a long and expressive finish. Drink now through – 2030.
92RP | Deep garnet-purple in color, the Purlieu Le Pich Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 has expressive black and red currants notes with kirsch, spice box, earth, and unsmoked tobacco notions. Medium-bodied, soft, supple, open and singing, the palate provides plenty of juicy fruit and a satisfying finish.
Le Pich | Golden Eagle
Le Pich gets its name from a Wappo Indian term meaning “golden eagle.” They are hunting birds, and you can often spot them above the vineyards as they soar, glide, circle and arc. They are beautiful birds — stately and impressive, but not haughty or boasting, with a nimbleness that’s inspiring.
Napa 2015 Thrilling at the Top
Antonio Galloni calls the 2015 Napa vintage “thrilling at the top,” and that is exactly where Julien Fayard dwells. Fayard has made massive headlines and attracted prominent followers with his Purlieu Cabernets: Robert Parker himself raved of Fayard’s current release Purlieu Beckstoffer To Kalon Cabernet saying it “just has it all. It is really a wine to diagram and analyzes over and over to see what true perfection really is.”
The result here is another masterpiece—ripe black fruit accented by mocha and graphite, beautiful balance, and a long expressive finish. Purlieu Le Pich Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 is a joy to drink now and over the next decade. That is if you’re quicker than the Fayard fans today.
Winemaker Julien Fayard
“One of the finest wines I’ve had. Didn’t buy enough. Little wonder, given Fayard’s background: after stints at Lafite-Rothschild and Smith Haut Lafitte, he moved to Napa in 2006 to work alongside Philippe Melka at Quintessa before striking out on his own to craft his masterful Purlieu and Le Pich Cabernets. The Purlieu Le Pich Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, from the latest in a line of excellent Napa vintages, was sourced from many of the same stellar sites as Purlieu’s single-vineyard To Kalon masterpieces.
In Fayard’s work, the lessons of Lafite rule: attention to detail and restraint in the cellar. His years in Napa, working with Melka on projects like Gemstone, Dalla Valle, and Lail, have provided Fayard with the understanding of the Valley’s vineyards and relationships with top growers that make confident restraint possible. These relationships allow Fayard to source top-flight fruit for Purlieu from sites like Pritchard Hill and To Kalon.
