Zisola Estate, Sicily
While the Zisola Estate is located in South-East Sicily, the land of the Nero d’Avola vine are just a few steps from Noto. So, the 50-hectare area extends around the 3 buildings “bagli” of the estate. Most of all, the main building enjoys a wonderful view over Noto. Yet, overlooking the surrounding “gardens” with vineyards, citrus trees, olives, and almonds. Here, a small but efficient winery includes stainless steel vats with temperature control for winemaking. And about 350 oak barrels for fining the wines.
First, the present 21 hectares of vineyard, provided with a plant density of 5,500 vines per hectare. Then, planting with the traditional albarello stock, Nero d’Avola, and in lesser measure with Syrah, Petit Verdot, Grillo, and Catarratto. So most of all, the marine breeze coming from the nearby coast moderates the heat in the summer.
