Tensley Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard 2017 | Loved the 2017 – 95pts Jeb Dunnuck
Tensley Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard 2017 presents a deep opaque ruby. Sultry aromas of smoked game, campfire, violets, and blackberry preserves. In addition, full and dense with supple tannins and notes of dark chocolate, dried herbs, anise, and black pepper. Another gem from Winemakers Joey and Jennifer Tensley.
95JD | I loved the Tensley Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard 2017, a classic Tensley Syrah with its plum and darker fruits, peppery herbs, olive, and savory meatiness. Possessing full-bodied richness, impressive purity of fruit, and a big finish, it’s another winner that will keep for 10-15 years.
Winery: Tensley Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard 2017 is the second vintage of Colson Canyon Syrah that we’ve produced since purchasing the vineyard in 2016. We’ve thinned the canopy, dropped crop and carefully monitored watering. As a result, we feel that 2016 and 2017 have been the best Colson vintages to date. This wine is rich and deep with decadent notes of chocolate, bacon, and black fruits, The mouthfeel is round and velvety with a long, lingering finish. Look for hints of vanilla from the 20 percent new French oak we use on each vintage.
Colson Canyon Vineyard | Santa Ynez Mountains
It was love at first sight for Winemaker Joey Tensley when he originally spied the rugged Colson Canyon Vineyard back in 1997. In addition, perched high up at an elevation of 1,400 feet. While the combination of warm days and cool nights produce dense, fruit-forward wines with opulent jamminess.
Colson Canyon Vineyard, high up in the Santa Ynez Mountains north of Los Olivos, has been providing exceptional Syrah to Joey Tensley since 2000. This fruit has helped Tensley become the most honored Syrah maestro on the coast. Notably, one vintage flirting with Robert Parker perfection at 99 points.
Winemakers Joey and Jennifer Tensley
Joey and his talented winemaker wife Jennifer Tensley cobbled their resources together and launched a label that has upended the wine world. In 1998 Joey Tensley launched Tensley Wines with one hundred cases and one single goal. To start a well-priced, Syrah-driven brand that let the unique vineyards of Santa Barbara County speak for themselves. The Tensley Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard 2017 delivers just that.
