Wright Family Heritage
The Wright family, owners of Voyager Estate, have farmed the area around Margaret River for nearly 150 years. But it wasn’t until 1991 that the late Michael Wright found an exquisite vineyard. With the oldest vines date to 1978 — and set to work developing the now-renowned estate.
Today, Michael’s daughter Alex carries forward her father’s legacy with the same attention to detail. Her meticulousness echoes veteran viticulturist and Winemaker Steve James. James has carried out a shift towards organic practices in the vineyard, By allowing the cool-climate site, planted on the oldest geology in Australia, to speak for itself.
Girt By Sea 2012 from Winemaker Steve James
Winemaker Steve James is as close to a ‘man of the earth’ as you can get. After graduating with a Diploma of Applied Science Horticulture, specializing in viticulture, Steve packed his bags and set off to travel, taste and explore his way through the great wine regions of Europe.
Steve focuses on vineyard uniformity, vine balance, and careful vineyard management evidenced by the Girt By Sea 2012. Furthermore, the judges highlighted his dedication to sustainability and superior fruit production.
